Manryo

“Man” means ten thousand and “ryo” was the currency of Japan until pre-Meiji era. Manryo(=ten thousand ryo) was so named because the plant bears countless small shiny fruits in early winter and is associated with wealth. It is impressive for a beautiful contrast of deep green leaves and brilliant red fruits, but I decided to depict it with one color, red on black background. Some fruits are bathed in light of golden powders. The wan(bowl) is the best match for new year’s first meal.
