Odemari

A gosu, box with a lid, in the shape of Odemari, Japanese snowball. To express both the flower’s gentleness and dignity, I chose to use a technique called kanshitsu; its base is made of layers of Japanese linen cloth consolidated with urushi. The snow-white flowers are depicted with small pieces of quail eggshell. The black and white contrast invites you to a mysterious world of early summer. Exhibited in the 64th Nihon Dento Kogei-ten (Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition).
